I bought my '16 Santa Fe Sport from CarMax last August. It's a former short term rental, high mileage but very well maintained. Have been to a dealership only once, seeking a replacement key fob, since the rubber on both existing ones is very worn. Based on the snotty reception I got in the parts department, I have continued having a certified small repair shop do all my maintenance.
Before this vehicle, I was driving a Scion, bought secondhand from a dealer. That Toyota dealership was also unsatisfactory.
I just cannot and do not trust factory dealerships, regardless of the brand.

I feel your pain. This is the FIRST dealership I have ever traded with, after the sale. It's also the ONLY vehicle I have had three recalls on, hey maybe 4, right?
I had a used Ford truck, a real beauty, recalled for the airbag tether wire rusts, they tormented me to trade it in for a new one.
About your key fob...if it happens again, try a locksmith. They can usually do the same job for half the price. Since my fob had only one PC board inside, I ordered the part from Amazon and did it myself. I also ordered a silicone sleeve for the fob and that is working great!!

The Hyundai wanted over $400.00 for rear brakes, not including rotors. Local certified shop...$277.00 included rotors, Hyundai parts.

 

Thanks. Guy at the dealership parts counter quoted over $500 for a fob, programming extra. He grinned as he said it, as if it gave him some pleasure. I hightailed it out of there, so I didn't end up starting a fight.

Soon after, I bought a "shell" for the fob. Can't see well enough to do the swap myself. Subsequently bought a replacement fob for less than $100. Took it to the top locksmith in town, who has the programming box. After an hour working on it, he learned that on this year+ model, Hyundai will allow only 2 key fobs to exist.

I've set it aside temporarily. The guy at the indie shop I use is planning to dismantle one existing fob and move the electronics to the new one.

Apparently there's also a process whereby you can "deregister" an existing fob, after which Hyundai theoretically will allow a new one to be programmed. And evidently some newer models allow for the existence of as many as 4 fobs.

What nonsense!

 

Smooth move, on your part. I intended to support the dealership, this time. They quickly showed their 'ass' and since, I have found a certified repair shop, I can walk to, the two mechanics drive Hyundai's. Why I am concerned about this supposed recall about the anti-theft software upgrade. My insurance rates have doubled in two years and there is no reason, on my actions, this should happen. Other than their dumb profit and loss statements.
