What is the difference?

I am highly looking forward to being proven wrong here but a friend of mine said the Dodge Journey would be a better bang for the buck than the Santa Fe. I just do not see it, especially with the 2013 models after reading up about them.

Hmm, your friend might also lean towards Domestic vehicles, too. The Santa Fe is a gorgeous vehicle (inside and out). The Journey is a great vehicle too but Hyundai has really stepped it up with their new 2013 model. All I can say is Test Drive! :)

The Journey has less leg room in the front, with some tall guys feeling like their knees are hitting the dash. I also think there is better storage in the Santa Fe. It just seems set up better to me, with the underfloor cargo bay. At least, that's in the longer wheelbase version - I'm not sure if the Sport has it. The Santa Fe is supposed to get better gas mileage, too.
I own a 2010 Santa Fe, and while I never tested out a Journey...I know that I love my Santa Fe.

It runs great, gets excellent gas mileage and the underfloor cargo bay that vroom mentioned is a feature that I really love that I don't believe the Journey has.

Though each has its own set of features, do you know which features your friend was most interested in (that might be why they thought it was a better purchase...just personal opinion)?
Leg room is something that I know I will need more than the spouse. When you are taking long road trips with a vehicle packed full of kids the last thing I want to do is drive myself and still be cramped up.

I'm 6'2 and don't have a problem in my Sante Fe, either driving or in the passenger seat. If you push the seats all the way back there is plenty of room.

I have to bend my legs a little bit but I've never been in a vehicle that I haven't had to, just because of my height.
Santa Fe's seem to have plenty of leg room and head room. Very spacious vehicles!

I think I might need a little of both, taller in the torso and the legs. The other thing I was considering was the mileage since I drive almost two hours daily for work. If I can save on the gas tank it just might be worth the switch off (going from a truck that is).

I've never really considered torso height in an SUV, it is an SUV after all...they normally come standard with headroom (coming from someone that's 6'1").

As for the gas tank, it's between a car and a truck. I get between 20-24 mpg out of mine. I don't consider that to be awesome by any stretch of the word...but it is better than most V8 trucks these days which will most likely be in the teens.
I am liking it the more I read about it, the mpg is key for me. We travel far too much between work and school for the kids. For me with work I travel mostly country roads but the MPH is pretty decent, if we got it for the wife she is all highway travel so it might just work out.
Gas mileage is important to me, too, but it's not a deal breaker as long as it's not crazy bad mpg. The Santa Fee seems pretty average in that respect. I don't need the leg room or head room as I'm no where near as tall as you guys. It's the cargo space and hidden storage that are big factors for me, plus the overall safety and record of the vehicle.

So Eddie, what did you finally decide on? I was reading your comments but you never posted what your final decision was.
Hi,
I just want to say that just go to any Hyundai showroom and go to the test drive of that car you definitely find the differences.
