I have 360 miles on my new Santa Fe Caligraphy and now it needs a new transmission! My transmission issues started with a loud "clunk" sound that shook the vehicle within seconds after starting the engine. This happened 4 times total. There were no other symptoms. However, after the 4th time, my wife drove on and went to the store. She parked the car, did some shopping, and then came out to find a few people gathered around two cars in the parking lot, and the Santa Fe was not where she left it. The vehicle had rolled and crashed into a 4-day-old Lexus! Took it to the dealer that day and 10 days later they called with the news the transmission had to be completely replaced. We do not plan to keep the vehicle. We also have to figure out the accident issue because I don't want to file a claim on my insurance. Likely I'll have to cash out the other party and try to recoup with Hyundai. As of now, we would have to go through Hyundai Corp for the buy-back but I'd rather go through the lemon law route so I can get representation due to the accident claim. However, we haven't met the criteria for that program until we hit 30 days w/o the vehicle. It was a slick car while it lasted.

Update: I just received my recall notice via email and mail late last week - a little late! I have a case with Hyundai Corp. Last week an investigator inspected the vehicle - basically they pulled data from the black box. The investigator told me the data would go to the engineers, then legal, and they would get back to me in 7-10 days with some course of action. They have been easy to work with albeit slow. That said my case manager calls every week to check in with updates. Meanwhile, the dealership service manager informed me that Hyundai isn't shipping any transmissions until late September, or early October! On top of that Sante Fe issue, it appears they are having to replace engines on the 24 Palisades.
