I bought a 2022 Santa Fe PHEV in June and love it. Several questions.

1) I really like the HDA as it will literally drive itself as long as I stay in my lane. Here's my question: When using HDA, and Smart Cruise Control, should my SF slow down when it goes into curves going a bit faster than it is a comfortable speed to do so? I find that it doesn't which seems odd that it wouldn't read the curve of the road lines and slow down.

2) My EV drive seems inconsistent. I know the gas-power will kick in when my SF needs more power. But there are many times when it seems like it should be in EV, for example, pulling out of my garage, at stop lights, cruising along at low speeds. Is this normal?

Thanks so much!

It'd be an ultra complex system if it knew how to read curves at high speeds. YOU need to do that. Ha ha. However, you could select the option to travel at the speed limit, and you wouldn't have to worry about going too fast on curves :).

Yeah, that's what I figured. So I actually need to keep my eyes on the road?!?! o_O:D

If you're doing 80 in a curvy road, then yes. Ha ha. I personally hardly ever use cruise, even in long trips, except if being followed (or following) a cop, for example. The reason is I like to drive fast, so rarely going steady. Plus steady speed is not the most fuel-efficient way to drive anyway, especially on hilly highways. I like to drive, and always paying full attention, except when I'm eating a quick snack, where either the HDA feature alone (or cruise with HDA activated) helps to keep the vehicle going straight; it's an awesome feature, and you activate it right on the steering wheel. And yes, it works great even in fast curves, but my wife wasn't happy when I tried it. Ha ha. Had my hands 1mm away from the steering wheel though, and thumb inside. It actually works better than my ex-2021 Tesla; it's that good :).

The EV system is run more off of throttle pressure and torque. You have to master the correct throttle in those situations. My average mpg for the first 20,000 has been 31.5. So it’s right on target. But on certain roads I can get 40-45 because it’s slightly downhill and I can coast more My Ford Fusion Hybrid was better at using EV from a dead stop but the battery had nowhere near the capacity as my Santa Fe. Do you also have a hesitation problem on take off? Mine can get really bad almost getting into accidents.

oh and I turned off all my auto driving and lane path features. It got really annoying. I rarely use cruise either.

We also have the hesitation problem and it has been like that since we got it. I think it seems to happen more in cooler weather. Almost feels like it isn't sure weather to use electric motor or ICE for a second and then it lurches forward. I do not pull out quite as close to incoming traffic as I might have with other gas vehicles in the past as a result.

That is the exact same problem.

We had that exact problem with the 2012 Prius we were leasing which is why we decided to send it back once the lease was done - the problem was really bad in the winter when the temps dropped quite low... to the point where my wife was afraid to drive it as she felt it was dangerous. We took a break from hybrids with our 2015 Santa Fe which was the Prius replacement, but went back to a hybrid with our new 2023 Santa Fe. We wanted to make sure the hesitation was not an issue before we signed. The HEV, even on eco, does not experience this at all and we have had some pretty cold days up here in Canada since we received the car.

One thing I did read from others with PHEV's is that you might want to try driving the car in SMART MODE instead of eco. This might help feather out those hesitations.

In our '22 Hybrid Limited, I am in the habit of changing to "Sport" drive mode if I want to eliminate any type of hesitation when accelerating from a stand still. Also, with Auto Hold enabled, if the vehicle comes to a stop, and Auto Hold comes on, there is less hesitation when I press the gas to accelerate.

Just my two cents...

Thanks for those insights! We tried Sport mode a bit more yesterday and it seems better although the weather is getting warmer here now so hard to say for sure. Will test with Auto Hold as well to see if that makes a difference.
