Any engine issues?

Hi, I have a 2016 Sante Fe 3.3L that blew its engine on the freeway last week at 116k miles. Dealership is trying to get me some help with corporate, but it’s been over a week and they’re requesting more and more maintenance records. Called corporate and filed claim also called http://nhtsa.dot.gov/ and initiated an investigation after reading many complaints of Theta engine failure. Most years recalled, but not mine. Strongly urge anyone with similar issues to do the same. Quoted $18,000 for new engine!

Sorry to hear that $18,000 repairs is painful. Did you notice any noise or issues with the engine before it blew? I have read about recalls over the years. Hope the newer Hyundai Santa Fe’s are more reliable. Considering the hybrid now.

my '18 sport had a rough first year and has been perfect since 2 trips back to the dealer for warranty engine wiring issues, might want to see my posts under the "limp home" posts. Check to see if your car has had those 2 issues addressed, if out of warranty and not been replaced they're a wallet buster fix w/no warnings. If all the recall work has been done then just enjoy.

I literally just took my car in last week for premature barring wear. I had metal in my oil filter. I have a 2013 6 cylinder. Guess which engine is recalled. 4 cylinder. They rejected my case. I have it into the complaint dept, but that is just their way of appeasing you. Any other ideas??
