Hi there. This is my first post. We just received our 2023 Santa Fe HEV Luxury. Have not driven much with it yet, but I am amazed by the tech and features in this car. I have been making my way through the owners manuals and was trying to figure something out but have not been able to find it:

Can you set a default drive mode (other than eco) so that it retains this mode each time you start the car up? I would prefer to have the car set in smart mode over Eco... but I guess I can always manually shit it that way. I have not driven the car enough to know if ECO is worth staying in or not.

At least for the US models, default drive mode always reverts back to ECO next time the vehicle is started. This is a requirement as this default ECO drive mode is what Hyundai uses in order to achieve their EPA fuel economy rating.

There may be third-party solutions available that will cause your chosen drive mode to be retained, however, I cannot recall where specifically I've seen that referenced. For example, there is this accessory that will retain the ISG (Idle Stop & Go) and Auto Hold settings through restarts, but I'm not sure if drive mode is a setting it is able to retain.

Re: ISG, your hybrid doesn't implement this feature in the same way as a normally-aspirated engine model does.

For me, I just have a standard series of button pushes I do every time I get in the car before I start off on my way. It has turned into a muscle memory exercise for me, and I have no complaints.

Sorry for long-winded reply, hope this helps!

I have gotten used to just driving in the default Eco mode, and tbh it's perfectly adequate but if the need arises then I'll dial to Sport for the additional oomph. I don't use Smart mode at all as I don't really feel the difference.
