We just purchased a new Santa Fe PHEV. Does anyone know if the batteries charge while the engine is running? We have done a 3 hour highway run with this unit and the batteries did not charge. I assumed they would, but we all know what happens when we assume stuff..

Hi there,
As far as we know with our Santa Fe PHEV in Hybrid mode it continually charges and discharges the hybrid battery as you go. It depends on your driving style and speed etc as to how much it actually charges in an absolute sense. By the time you get home from a trip it may be at the level you started at but that doesn't mean it wasn't charging as you drove. Hope that makes sense. There are different screens you can flip to on the display to show you what it is doing as to the hybrid system in real time as you drive.

Thanks, I spoke with the dealership and they clarified things for me as well.
Glad they have you some answers.
Just curious what part of Canada are you in? We are in Winnipeg and currently having issues with the vehicles hybrid system basically immobilizing the car so it can't be driven in the cold temperatures. The dealership has tried two different fixes now but we got a new check engine indicator yesterday so had to take it in again. We are really disappointed as we like the vehicle otherwise.

We’re in Edmonton, but we haven’t had any cold weather since we bought it. Just noticed an oil leak on the garage floor today. Obviously covered under warranty but dissapointing all the same. Last two Murano’s were problem free.

Oh nice we just moved from Edmonton this year. It has been colder here so far according to our friends there. The repairs they have tried so far for ours have centred around the oil pressure system so I wonder if you might be seeing the start of a similar issue. I hope Hyundai sorts this out soon but maybe ours is a lemon and yours will be ok. Let's keep each other posted! We were hesitant buying the first year of a new model and I guess this is why...

Hi there, just wondering how your Santa Fe PHEV has been doing since last year? Ours seems to be ok since repairs in 2022 and has done fine over this past winter. Hope yours has been ok too! The only weird thing we keep having is the dash will flash the "check turn signal" screen very briefly just out of nowhere usually when the turn signal is on but sometimes when it is not. Have you ever had something like that?

We have a 2023 on order for Ottawa. Hope the cold weather issue is resolved!
Hellow fellow Ottawaian.. Yeah we had pre-ordered a PHEV last July, but as of last January we pretty much discovered there was no chance we were getting our car. Apparently there is less than 700 PHEV's arriving in Canada for 2023. We did manage to get a cancelled order for a HEV and took delivery last month. I think we actually did well all things considering.. as we would not have been able to store the car in our garage.

Hope you do get your car!
