Hyundai plans to expand its U.S. factory so it can increase capacity for SUVs.

The brand plans to add a new assembly line at its Alabama facility, right next to the line that currently builds the Sonata and Elantra. Demand for SUVs and crossovers has been increasing recently while sales numbers for cars like the Sonata and Elantra have been slowing.

Currently, Hyundai builds the Santa Fe at a Kia plant in Georgia while the Tucson is imported from South Korea. The new upgraded Alabama plant would have a capacity of 300,000 vehicles and could build the Santa Fe and Tucson according to a report.
