So I am looking to buy a 2.7l petrol Santa Fe. Was generally pleased on the test drive but the last thing I thought I'd try was the engaging 4wd button, expecting to hear wheels judder if I made a tight turn. I know this is bad but at least it's a very basic check the lock works...

Nothing happened. Pressed the button, no sound, no change in handling, nothing. Am I missing something or is it broken or got the smarts? Any better way to test?

Cheers in advance!

Did the light on the switch at least turn amber? I am not sure how to check that it is engaged unless you drive over some ice or sand...

I know this is an old post, but if you have 4wd ingaged, when on hard surface, turn all the way to the left or right, and if it is very jerky when giving it gas while turning, then you are in 4wd, that goes for all 4wd no matter the make or model, or your diff is locked, but a far as I know the Sfe's are awd not 4wd, but have a diff lock.
