Canada 2023 order notification and wait times HEV and PHEV

I placed an order for a Santa Fe luxury PHEV January 17, 2022. Unfortunately I was informed the portal closed for 2022 orders on January 6, 2022 - so I was told. April of 2022 the portal opened to place orders for some 2023 ICE vehicles but not HEV and PHEV.

Now the latest information I’ve been told is the order portal should open in May…sometime…with order confirmation notifications going out to customers in June.

Getting a complete picture has been a pain involving reading many other forums and speaking with multiple dealerships to cross reference who is telling mostly truth and who is saying most anything to get a preorder sale.

What I did learn is that Canadian orders are allegedly queued by original date and time they were initially placed by the customer. One should not be worried that other customers/dealerships could be jumping the queue ahead of you. I worried that someone who ordered much later could jump ahead of me if another dealership entered their order before mine in what I thought was a free for all when the portal opens,

Not so. I was assured that Hyundai Canada contacts the dealerships and requests the orders to date for specific vehicles. After a window of time the orders are sorted by initial order date and then further queued by what can be built according to availability/option combinations. You can establish your order date by your preorder payment receipt or, if the dealership actually gave it to you, a copy of the preorder paperwork.

Note the 8 to 12 month estimates for Hyundai PHEV vehicles begins from when Hyundai Korea actually gets the order…not when you preordered.

It would be good if members would note their preorder date, vehicle details and if/when official production order confirmation details.

I’m thinking I’m lucky if I get my new Santa Fe PHEV for Christmas but most likely the Easter bunny will bring it in 2023.

I thought I would chime in. I called our sales person at Brantford Hyundai a few weeks back, and was told we are getting a Santa Fe 2023 PHEV. We are apparently 3rd on the list at the dealer. When I spoke to our sales person, they said they were only getting 4 Santa Fe 2023 PHEV. So with 200ish dealers at 3-4 cars (if they distributed them evenly, the 700 PHEVs makes sense We placed our order/wait list March 14th 2022. So we are at 13 months, hoping by the end of April or May we might have it.
congrats fellow Canadian! Fingers crossed you get your car.

Very good. I’m #4 and I preordered January 17 of 2022. My dealership in Vancouver is “guessing” that I may get mine in the fall. They are only receiving 4 PHEV units.

Meanwhile I’m driving a 23 preferred trend. Impressed by the highway fuel economy. 7.7 to 8.8 L/100km but any hills kill it pretty fast. It’s not fantastic in the city; averaging 11 l/100km but I’ve only got 1500 km on the clock so far.

After 16 month wait, picked up the car today. Also, thank you for the posts on Phantom mats, installed them as well.

Dealer said, this is the first and only plug-in delivery they had this year.

An update from me:
  • Order made December 2021
  • First factory order email letter promised production date - June 2022
  • Last factory order email letter said, that car is built on Jan 2023 (received in Feb)
  • Picked it up a few weeks back (mid-April)
  • Dealer said they have seen only 2 PHEVs so far this year, including mine

Just found out today. Dealership has officially ordered the PHEV I preordered back in January of 2022. They “think” it will get here in the fall. Maybe. I’m the last at my dealership to get a PHEV.

Ordered mine in 22 April and I guess I have to wait for some more time. Any idea about the 24 model change? I am hearing the new model will be out some time in second half of this year.

The only thing that the dealer confirmed is that it will have 7 seats. Not sure if optional or not but likely.

It seems like the whole model change. It looks like a box on wheels. There are some camouflage pics/videos out there

Yes, we've all seen that. I didn't mean that they will just stick seven seats in the existing Santa Fe. That already exist in other markets. The new car will likely have 7 seat option for Canada and US
Well good news... The sales person called today, apparently, someone cancelled their order on a new 2023 Santa Fe PHEV, because the interior was black and not tan. So after 14 months, we are picking up the car in a week. It wasn't the colour we ordered, magnetic gray, but it was blue lagoon (grayish blue), which I didn't even know was a choice. I got the Phantom ordered, hopefully the arrive in time. Finally the wait is over.

Congrats, you will enjoy saving gas for sure.
I guess this means the car we ordered might be up for grabs, when ever it comes in.
