Went to my dealership yesterday and was told the following information:

1. There were only 3 plug in hybrid Santa Fe's delivered to their dealership in all of 2022
2. There are a number of people who placed a deposit before the portal closed in Jan 2022 who are still waiting on their vehicles (this is verified by other posters in this thread)
3. They are expecting no more than 4 phev santa fe vehicles to be delivered to their dealership in 2023, if any at all, and which would obviously fill the pre-Jan 2022 orders first.
4. He claims Hyundai is stopping plug in hybrid manufacturing in the near future because it's too complicated and expensive - they will be streamlining their processes so they can focus on fully electric vehicle development moving forward, and in order to do so will only offer gas, hybrid, and electric very soon (no phev)
5. Apparently the Toyota dealership next door to theirs just recently did a huge wave of forced deposit refunds to remove people off their list because the wait is expected to be 5+ years. He mentioned they've slowly started doing the same too
6. My24 Santa Fe will be bigger and boxier, and will have a 3rd row (which has already been speculated from sneak peaks). This will likely only be offered in gas and hybrid
**he didn't say this directly, but when I pointed out that pulling away from phevs when they don't have anything to properly replace them with for suvs was a confusing move, he said the ionic 5 and 7 will be their electric suv models which replaces their need for phev suvs

I'm in the Greater Vancouver area.
Pretty well as much as I had guessed. Which dealership. I have a preorder at the Hyundai dealership near ikea and the superstore.

I'm "in the top 5" for their waitlist post-2022 portal closing, but he doesn't think my order will ever be filled.
lougheed. #4 on the list. I am taking delivery of a preferred trend in a couple of weeks. If the phev unicorn appears I will trade but, like you said, probably ain’t gonna happen.

Got a Valentines gift today. My dealer in the Niagara region called to confirm they are placing my Santa Fe Luxury PHEV on firm order. They were ”granted“ 2 PHEV’s. Feeling lucky today! I am now expecting July / August delivery, which will be 18-19mos. Price is $54,500 before Fed $5k rebate. Good stuff.

I enjoyed your string on floor mats. I’m gonna do the options thing in April.

so did you place an actual order in December 2021 or are you super incredibly lucky and placed a preorder in January and just happened to be #1 or #2 in the queue at your dealership. That would be amazing if actual preorders were being fulfilled

Also, and please take this the right way, are you trading in a good vehicle and/or financing. There has been some scuttlebutt of dealerships prioritizing higher value deals.

and….I’m super jealous

I placed a deposit on Jan 20th 2022. The dealership has been telling me I was first on their list for many months. I’m definitely waiting for this vehicle. I intend to trade in my 2013 Explorer and pay cash. I asked and was told lease or finance is 6-7% and that sucks. The dealership does not seem to be pushing me to financing but, I heed your words!

I’ll keep you posted but won’t be talking to the dealer until April. Fingers still crossed.

Added note: to be clear my Jan 20 / 22 deposit was to get in the preorder line up.

It really is strange that Hyundai has seriously dropped the ball on the PHEV. The demand for this car seems pretty high. I really reminds me of Honda’s efforts for hybrids and how they were on and off again with hybrid offerings..

And no offence to Rickety but how does a dealership in Niagara region know they are getting 2 PHEV vehicles and informed their customer when no one has reported anything from the mandated provinces of BC and Quebec?

Tuxmat trunk mats for 2023 Santa Fe Hybrid and Non-Hybrid vehicles are now available at tuxmat.ca The CSR I messaged with advised to order quickly. They are probably expecting them to run out of stock fairly quickly. YMMV.

Otherwise the Phantom mats from Costco Canada are just rebranded tuxmats for the front and 2nd row. Costco Canada does not have trunk/cargo mats for any flavor of the Santa Fe.

No offence taken. I’m just another guy waiting for a car in another province. My sales guy is who I spoke to and he said they’ve been given by Hyundai two PHEV slots for the Santa Fe’s they had on their pre order list. I failed to ask how long is that list. And that may be a critical point - how many of the pre order list are being given a production slot, how big is the list, by dealership. As you know we’ll never get that info. Your point about Quebec and BC is really valid because they have the electric sale % minimums - aren’t there other people on this forum from BC & Quebec to chime in here? Is Hyundai Canada itself placing a priority on BC and Quebec? What I have read in a few mass media places (ie Toronto Star Nov 1/22) is that global demand for these has taken off as we’re coming out of the supply chain horrors. From what I can tell, Toyota also has long long lead times, but I haven’t spoken to a dealer. Anyway all I can coach is patience (and that is not a strength for me). Cheers

Vancouver-ite here. I ordered Jan17, 2022. I actually saw a 2022 PHEV in a Superstore parking lot yesterday. My dealership has had zero deliveries. I asked about accepted orders prior to Jan 4 (portal cutoff) but they were pretty dodgy about answering as they still want to take in $500 deposits and, theoretically, keep customers from other vehicles. I ended up taking a Preferred Trend ICE (delivery sometime soon) and that's what dealerships want - convert 1 customer to 2 sales.

Yes I know you’re in BC. I’m surprised you weren’t called based on your Jan 17 deposit date last year. I thought you’d be higher on the list than myself - if in fact they Hyundai is managing this very tightly. I also remember reading you’ve moved to a Preferred ICE. Do you have a chance to flip back to PHEV?

Sorry for the delay but had to annoy, errr, kindly ask my dealership….and here is the answer

“Yes, we were given 1 Santa PHEV to order so we are fulling our very first customer.
I am expecting to receive total 4 Santa Fe PHEV this year. So, the last 4th unit will be yours when it is available to order.

And there are more Tucson PHEV will be available than Santa Fe PHEV.”

I guess I kinda sort of understand Tucson / Sportage since they are new vehicles where as the Santa Fe is in it’s last production year for the current design before a new Fe comes out… Could this be the reason Hyundai is putting full commitment into it? I am so confused by all of this.

When we were test driving cars I so wanted to like the Tucson - totally on board with the new style, but the interior was a bit of a let down and boy that cabin felt tight to me…. On the flip side, after seeing spy shots of the new Fe on the horizon, I am just not into it as well… The boxy look works for some brands, but just not convinced it works for THIS brand.

My car dealership is near a grocery store I shop at so I drop in today to enquire if my preferred trend came in. It was promised on the lot by the 20th. The salesperson I deal with is out. I ask another salesperson if any transports have come in. He says not “not that I’ve seen this week”. He asks what I’ve been waiting for. “ Santa Fe preferred trend black”

“Nope….not seen one”

I talk with the sales manager about my PHEV order and he says “we have 4 confirmed orders we can place….you are number four.” I ask “how many have you ordered?”

“one”

I explain how we all thought no PHEV this year and that’s why I went with the preferred trend. I ask “well why don’t you place the order for the other 3? Is Hyundai saying one at a time? Seems kinda stupid?”…..no answer.

I know what he’s doing. He’s waiting for me to take possession of the ice vehicle then he will say “confirm the PHEV? Sign here and here’s what your trade in new vehicle is now worth. (Less).”

So I ask is my new car here? Tippity tap on the computer. “It should be here next week sometime.”

salesperson texts me 30 minutes later. “Hey…it’s here. Got here a couple of days ago. We just have to clean it and fill it with gas. Come Sunday and get your new car.”

For $##@!, sake. I will be glad when this car buying crap is behind me. It’s been a crap show and I came out a bit behind on the deal compared to last time I did this. I know. First world problems.

I drive by there around 10:30 this morning and they had a truck to unload with a Santa Fe or two on it.
I was wondering if one was yours.

Mediaman…i just got my Phantom mats….and they do look pretty good. Comparing to Hyundai's mat offerings…they feel like they sit between the weather techs, but slightly below the premium mats. I mean they look well made, but they are not as thick material wise as the premiums. i will be keen to see then in the car…when i get the car.
