Hello! I own a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with 56,000 miles. In May it started jerking/lunging when going from 1st-2nd gear. There is no rhyme or reason since it continues to jerk/lunge but not every day or every time you drive it. If it starts out, it will do it the entire time driving but, sometimes, when you turn the car off and start it again, it will stop. I have had it to the dealership 5 different times for this issue and only the last time, they were able to feel the issue themselves. They state the jerking/lunging does not throw a code for the computer, therefore there is nothing they can do, although the vehicle is still covered under warranty. I have also called Hyundai Corporate, who told me I would have to call the warranty company to see if they will install a new transmission, although they are not sure if that is the issue or not. Has anyone else had this issue and had it resolved?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Unfortunately, this is a known issue on the Sante Fe 2017 models - especially the base Sport model from that year.
1.) It is an intermittent problem that will not go away.
2.) It will not get worse over time (just annoying and a very unsatisfactory driving experience).
3.) It will never throw a code. And that's the MAJOR ISSUE! Since there is no code, Hyundai can hide behind that fact and usually won't do a thing about it.
4.) Hyundai is aware of the issue and you will need to work with your dealership to see if they can submit a report so Hyundai will replace the transmission. Did you buy your Santa Fe new? What model is it?
5.) I know owners who just live with the issue because Hyundai won't do anything about it.
6.) Are there any other issues you are having with your Santa Fe? Oil consumption? Knock Sensor? Etc.?

I had a 2016 Sport with similar issues at about 70k miles. Started doing that betw 1st and 2nd gear intermittently, then got worse over time, sometimes it would "hiccup" while it down-shifted as well. Had the tranny fluid and filter replaced. Didn't help. Took it to dealer 2x , but of course she wouldn't misbehave while mechanic was driving it. They had it up on a lift for an hour, checking this and that and plugging it in to this computer and that....couldn't find the problem. Owned it another year up to 85k and finally had enough. Traded it in for '20 Santa Fe SE last October.
