Hey guy. I'm a Newbe owner with a 2013 Sport 2.0T. Just got into the Hyundai camp a year and half ago when we traded our 12th or 13th Mazda for a 2010 3.5 V6 Santa Fe. Then the Hendrick dealer made us a deal we couldn't refuse on the 2013.
I have had great luck with the brand until yesterday. We have only 808 miles on it but the exhaust pipes are loaded with soot, plus the in town MPG isn't as good as the V6 was. I was wondering if you saw the same thing on yours?
The Service Adviser this morning told me it is just because it's new and not broken in. I don't buy that. I was a Mazda SA for years and NEVER saw a new car load up the exhaust with this much crap, new or used unless it was running too rich.
As for your MPG "shortage", I started using a product as soon as the nuts in D.C. demanded we load our gas with corn alcohol. It is made by Star Brite and called Star Tron. No, I don't work for them but I KNOW this helps. It is an enzyme gas treatment to rid the tank of the alcohol. I have used it in 4 cars and ALL of them got better MPG.
Our V6 Santa Fe was getting 15-16 in the city and 22-23 on the road. After the second tank I was getting 19-23 in town and the highway went to 26-28. Not a huge jump but anything is better. I takes an ounce per 10 gallons after the first treatment which is 2 oz. per 10 gallons.
I am also using the 89 octane gas, used that in the V6 and that helped also. Plus me and the "other" SA thought with the turbo it would be a good idea.
Any input from ya would be great. If ya ever get up by Mt. Pleasant SC toot ya horn!!
